Beginners Pilates based classes

Where do I start?

Beginners mat classes begin with a private, one on one consultation with one of our physiotherapists. This is a one hour session where a thorough history of your problem and goals are obtained.

Your posture is assessed and various baseline measures are recorded so that you can check your progress as you go through the program. The length, strength, weakness and stiffness of all of your postural, spinal, shoulder and hip muscles are assessed. Any questions you have will be answered by the physiotherapist.

What are the classes like?

Initially the exercises for your core postural muscles are done in easy positions such as lying down on a mat and in sitting with special equipment. We teach you about coordinating each exercise with breathing to help you ease neck tension and awaken the abdominal muscles which support the low back.

Your group is taught together as one as your physio instructs you through a mixture of clinically appropriate exercises, borrowing from Pilates, yoga, functional strengthening and other movement based disciplines.

Each week your exercises will be progressed into new positions that are more challenging for you. The exercise classes are fun and the atmosphere is relaxed and supportive. Your physiotherapist will closely supervise you to improve your technique and posture. The physiotherapist will ask you to do some exercises at home.

Intermediate/Advanced Pilates based classes

Challenge yourself.

Adaptation is a natural response to exercise. That's why we developed our popular Intermediate and Advanced mat classes. We want to further and continually challenge you. You discovered new strengths, awareness and muscle systems in the Beginners mat classes. Your physiotherapist can now build on this, borrowing from Pilates, yoga, functional strengthening and other movement based disciplines.

Conditioning and endurance exercises for the arm and leg muscles are incorporated in these levels. Develop whole body strength and further challenge the deep supporting postural and core muscles. By the end of these programs, you will feel more flexible, strong, aware of your posture, and confident of your abilities.
