At The Fix Program® we have a few strong beliefs about the physiotherapy treatment of any injury and pain.
Belief No. 1: We are interested in the whole you.
We all know the words to that kid’s song, ‘the hip bone’s connected to the knee
bone’. Well, nothing could be truer. We love the challenge to finding and fixing
the causes, not only treating the symptoms. This can include everything from changes
in your movement precision and control, strength, joint mobility and even how your
brain is wired to make it all happen. We are skilled in helping you to set your
goals and to go after them sensibly after injury. We wouldn’t stop with you when
we felt that the pain or movement was better.
Belief No. 2: We understand the power of exercise in managing injury and pain.
Yes, as physiotherapists we still want to treat you with our hands to manage your
symptoms of pain or stiffness and to accelerate the rate of healing on the treatment
table. But as soon as possible, from those first sessions, exercises to target your
problem areas will become the emphasis. Your sessions with our physiotherapists
will occur across our physiotherapy treatment rooms and exercises studios. Exercises
will be prescribed from many disciplines such as Pilates, Yoga, Feldenkrais, Swiss
ball and core and spinal stability.
Belief No. 3: Nothing makes you better quicker than understanding your injury more.
Education. Explanation. Empowerment. We take the time. From talking you through
your activity and exercise goals, to setting treatment plans together with you,
to chatting about anatomy, physiology, the human body and your injury – we will
do this all within your physiotherapy treatment sessions with us. Evidence from
recent research shows that in combination with the right hands-on physiotherapy
and exercise treatment, taking the time to educate improves overall outcomes for
most with injury. The power of knowledge cannot be overlooked.
Belief No. 4: Every body is different.
What better way to recover from injury, or prevent another by being aware of your
body, the way it moves, the way it holds itself and its peculiarities? We are all
unique, making each of us different. Shouldn’t treatment for each of our injuries
therefore be different? Certainly! We love the challenge.
